She was doing the work before she was teaching it
Gladys Sapp runs Hem It & Go Sewing and Alterations, taking in, letting out, hemming and remaking other people’s clothes. The school came out of the shop: enough people asked how she did it that teaching became its own thing.
That is the useful part of learning from her. She is not teaching from a curriculum she was handed — she is teaching the shortcuts, the fixes and the judgment calls that come from doing this for other people, for money, under a deadline.
